Sandra Meyers

Dr. Sandra Meyers is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Medicine and Applied Sciences and a medical physicist at the Moores Cancer Center. She is the Assistant Vice-Chair for Physics & Technology Research, Associate Division Director of Research, Director of the Center for Quality, Innovation, Value and Efficiency in Radiotherapy (QUIVER) and Lung Technology Section Chief. 

Dr. Meyers is a research-focused physicist with an interest in applying machine learning to automate and improve radiation treatment processes. She has developed models to predict radiation dose based on imaging and is using neural networks to automatically customize radiation treatments to patients’ anatomy, all with application to brachytherapy of cervical cancer.  She is the recipient of a K08 Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Cancer Institute and a Padres Pedal the Cause Seed Grant.

Dr. Meyers is a member of multiple national committees through the American Association of Physicists in Medicine. She has an interest in gender equity and outreach and is the Secretary of the UCSD Women in Health Sciences Committee, where she has spearheaded a program to recognize female full professors in UCSD Health with pins.
